Great Albums

I have to talk about these two amazing albums I have recently downloaded. A post or two ago I posted a video for the song "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster The People. I liked it so much that I downloaded the whole album called "Torches". The band first called itself Foster and The People, named after Mark Foster, the lead singer. People misheard it and began calling them Foster The People. It took to meaning nurturing the people, so they kept the name. I have been searching for good new music, something different, this was my answer. I have been listening to "Torches" on repeat, it is so good. The songs are contagious. I would recommend this album to anyone, well anyone who is into the Indie scene.

Another album that I would also recommend is "Young Love" by Mat Kearney. I have always loved Mat even though his music hasn't gotten very popular. He does have a good following and it has gotten his music featured on many tv shows like Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill, and Scrubs. He has a unique sound. On his earlier albums, he mixed his singer songwriter sounds with some low-key rhymes. I loved that he sounded like other singers I liked, but with his own twist. His new album is just as good, actually even better in my eyes than his last.

If you are looking for new music, try these two amazing albums. I am sure glad I did, because I was in need for great summer music! I have the videos to a couple of their songs, take a look and Enjoy!
**UPDATE: I posted Mat's new video for "Hey Mama" also a great song!**

Internship Saga: Part Three

My latest project at the station has been for WDOK. I filmed my lovely mother about pet finance tips for the website. WDOK does a lot of work for the APL. I then spent yesterday and today editing it and finalizing it. I would love to show you the finished product. It may just be a bunch of Vet nonsense, but my editing skills have not faded after 6 years! Enjoy!

Pumped Up Kicks

Today I actually got to be on the radio, very impromptu. It turns out I don't have a radio voice, it's OK, no dreams were shattered.
I actually wanted to share this amazing song with you. I am currently loving this song and cannot get enough of it. It's called "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster The People. Hope you enjoy as much as I do.

Internship Saga: Part Two

I have finally started to like my internship, but not just like, LOVE. I have been having a blast the past few events and I even got a mini "intern promotion". By total chance I met a radio DJ at an event I was doing and we got to talking.  She offered me a chance to do her social media stuff during her show. I jumped on it cause it sounded right up my alley. Today was my second day on the job and I am already a star...well kinda. I got to record a commercial for the radio that will be airing this coming monday. I am totally stoked and ready to be listening to the radio all day. I also got the chance to be the star of Nancy Alden's (the DJ) craft of the month spot. I gave her my idea from the letters I made and I got to be in her video explaining it. I decided that you all should see it, so here it is, Enjoy my stardom!

Summer Crafting

This past year I had to make a bunch of crafting things for my sorority. At first I thought it was a hassle, but when I started painting and crafting my mind changed. So this summer I thought that I would pick up some crafting things and occupy myself in my down time. I chose to paint wooden letters of my name to hang in my room, in my apartment next year. I thought it would be a great thing to show on here to everyone.

Just blobs

The finished product!
I had hoped this project would last me a week or so, but I finished in about 3 days. Now I am no artist, I can just be creative and copy off of things I see. That is the extent of my artistic-ness. Now that I am done, I am moving on to my next project. It is a wooden step stool that I made back in middle school for wood shop. Obviously it was not my choice to take this class, nor was it to make the stool. I found the stool after cleaning out my room when I came home for the summer. I was about to throw it away but now I have different plans. Once I have made progress I will update on the stool.

Happy Summer Crafting Everyone!

Honorary Canadian

Happy Canada Day!

I decided to write a little about the special day, because I have many friends who are actually Canadian. I know hard to believe that an Ohio girl from a small town is friends with so many Canadians. I would love to say that I had a wild trip at Niagara Falls and met all these fine people, but I have no such story. My story is that I met them at summer camp. We all attended Goldman Union Camp Institute for a number of years and became friends when we were staff. I have even been dating one for about 2 and half years now.

Throughout the past two years I have been visiting Canada pretty frequently. On my latest visit the boyfriend and I (mostly me) decided that I was an honorary Canadian. I decided this because I have been there so many times and have even made the crazy decision to move there after I graduate. I believe that with all of my time spent exploring Toronto, I am ready to become this honorary Canadian. I don't know if everyone, even the rest of my Canadian friends believe this, but I think I'm ready to take this title.

So today, I will be wearing my Canada Day shirt the boyfriend's mother got for me last summer. I will be dreaming of being in Toronto exploring more of the Kensington market, the Eaton Center and even the CN tower. I'll also be thinking about the next time I'll be visiting my Canadian friends. I hope all of you enjoy today and try considering me as your honorary Canadian.

Internship Saga

Currently at Ohio State I am a communications student. I am fast approaching my last year there and I am quite nervous, to say the least. I have no idea what or where I want to go with my career and lately this seems to be the hot topic with my family and boyfriend. I am getting pretty overwhelmed with the whole concept of growing up and getting a job. Well really just getting a job, I may never really grow up. As I mull over the job options that are in my future, I have an internship this summer that will hopefully help me get one step closer to finding my true calling.

I am currently interning at Q104. This is one of the most popular and biggest radio stations in Cleveland. My job is pretty simple, I show up to events, help set up and then put on that big PR smile. I must say that I haven't had that much fun yet. I know I shouldn't complain or judge much, I have only worked two events so far. These events have been at home appliance stores in the middle of no where. I must say, if you have never ventured out to the cities of Brunswick and Elyria, don't bother.

These two events I have helped at are using the Mega Money Machine. I know sounds kinda fun right, not totally. Its a slot machine, just with prizes instead of coins or lotto tickets. Basically people pull the lever and see what they get, everyone wins something. They all hope they win the big money which is $102,000. In a sense, its like vegas just without the vegas part.

The part that really blows my mind about this whole event, is that this Mega Money Machine has followers. When I say followers, we usually call them regulars. At my first event, my team leaders told me all about these unique people. They listen to the radio to find out where and when our MMM events are going to be held. These people literally go where ever this MMM goes, even if it is two hours away from them. When I was informed about the regulars, I didn't believe it, but today I was forced to believe. I saw almost all of the same people I saw a week ago. They all come up to the machine the same way. They say "Give me the big money," and I smile at them thinking to myself about how crazy they are to do this once or twice a week. When they don't get the big prize they sigh and take what they are given. In a way I sort of feel bad for them, they try and try, and still they haven't won what they came there for. I hope that when I update next about this internship it won't just be about the regulars.

I am excited for the things to come, I am scheduled to work at the Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift concerts. Hopefully since it won't be with the Mega Money Machine, I will be meeting a different crowd. I know I am just an intern and I need the experience, I will try not to complain much. Hopefully my summer gets better and I start enjoying what I am doing.
